Probiotic bacteria are natural (friendly) inhabitants of our digestive system, where they serve as powerful immune system stimulators and regulators. Some of these friendly bacteria have specific “anti-biotic" action against specific strains of pathogenic bacteria, particularly those which are anaerobic (like the bacteria which cause dental infections).
Their correct balance is an essential component of health and healthy immune function, which is often disturbed through administration of antibiotics. Antibiotics are designed to kill off the bacteria which cause dental infections - they do this, but at the same time they also kill off the friendly bacteria. Often, these friendly bacteria have difficulty in replenishing, and this is where a good probiotic supplement can help to restore balance.
Bifidophilus Plus is a powerful probiotic formula, designed to help rebalance the probiotic colonies in those who have had one or more courses of antibiotics.
It is high in bifido-bacteria, which are species that colonise the mouth and the small and large intestines, and their presence in good levels helps to ensure that pathogenic strains are not able to get a foothold in any of these areas. They are protective to the gingival tissue, which is why this formula is ideal for dental patients. We normally recommend this product for acute short-term use, but it is safe for long-term use in those who have an ongoing need for probiotic support.
The product contains a broad spectrum of live probiotic bacteria, as well as the prebiotic Inulin (fructo-oglio-saccharide), the specific carbohydrates indigestible by humans but which provide food for th beneficial gut bacteria, to help stimulate their colonisation.
The addition of Inulin (fructooglio- saccharide) to Bifidophilus Plus makes it particularly useful for encouraging the probiotic bifodobacteria in the lower part of the intestine.
Each capsule will provide on average 250mg fructo-oligosaccharide and a culture of 4 billion bacteria (at time of manufacture).
