Pyridoxal 5 Phosphate is the metabolically active form of B6. Food State Vitamin B6 is beneficially combined in a probiotic base in which it naturally occurs. The probiotic species used (lactobacillus bulgaricus) is a native inhabitant of the human GI tract.

Vitamin B6 is a water-soluble vitamin, consisting of three related compounds: pyridoxine, pyridoxal and pyridoxamine. It is required for the proper functioning of more than 60 enzymes and is essential for normal RNA, DNA and amino acid synthesis. Vitamin B6 is involved in the energy cycle by activating the release of glycogen from the liver and muscle. It is essential to physical activity. Pyridoxine plays an important role in the breakdown and utilisation of carbohydrates, fats and proteins. It is required for the proper absorption of vitamin B12 and for the production of hydrochloric acid and magnesium. It also helps linoleic acid function better in the body. Isolated vitamin B6 is pyridoxine. Food State B6 and that found in foods is in the form of pyridoxal 5 phosphate, the bioactive and enzymatically converted form of B6. This is a universally effective form of B6, particularly so for those who lack the convertase enzyme necessary to make P5P. Vitamin B6 plays a role in the multiplication of all cells and must be present for the production of red cells and the cells of the immune system. It also aids the conversion of tryptophan, an essential amino acid. Vitamin B6 helps maintain the balance of sodium and potassium, which regulates body fluids and promotes the normal functioning of the nervous and musculoskeletal systems.

Best Natural Sources
The best sources are meat and whole grains.

Absorption and Storage
A daily supply of vitamin B6, together with the other B complex vitamins, is necessary because it is excreted in the urine within 8 hours of ingestion. It is not stored in the liver but found exclusively in muscle tissue. Fasting and reducing diets deplete the body’s supply.

RDA
The RDA for vitamin B6 is 1.4mg. The need for vitamin B6 increases during pregnancy, lactation, exposure to radiation, aging and use of oral contraceptives. B6 requirements are dependent on protein metabolism, so the more protein consumed, the more B6 is needed. The RDA is geared for diets containing 100 grams of protein per day.

Suggested Intake: 1 tablet daily, or take as directed by a practitioner.
Suitable for: Vegetarians and for people with Candida and yeast sensitivities.
