About our astaxanthin supplement
High-potency algae source (Hematococcus pluvialis) NatAxtin® astaxanthin provides wide ranging, potent antioxidant support, especially for skin, eye and muscle health. Astaxanthin is a naturally occurring carotenoid antioxidant often referred to as the ‘king of carotenoids’ and recognised as nature’s strongest antioxidant. It is known for its exceptional ability to help support against oxidative stress and is highly protective of body tissues. Astaxanthin has been well researched in the areas of eye health, skin and inflammation. Each daily dose provides 8mg of pure astaxanthin alongside vitamin E in a totally vegan form, as an alternative to sources such as krill, salmon and shellfish.
What makes your astaxanthin Bio-Effective®?
Our algae are naturally grown in Chile's Atacama Desert, where the strong solar radiation maximizes UV sun exposure, boosting antioxidant levels and delivering up to 5x more carotenoid potency than using indoor or artificial light.
Is the algae toxin free?
Yes, our algae are grown naturally and sustainably in a pristine, pesticide-free stable climate, using fresh underground water from the Andes. No chemicals or solvents are used.
What are the benefits of astaxanthin?
Astaxanthin is considered one of the most powerful natural antioxidants, with significantly greater activity than other antioxidants in combatting oxidative stress. Oxidative stress can contribute to cellular damage and is associated with ageing, inflammation and reduced overall function, including sustaining energy and protecting cellular health during exercise.
Astaxanthin works alongside vitamin E to provide broad antioxidant support throughout the body, including the brain, heart, and other areas affected by oxidative stress. It is particularly valued for supporting skin and eye health, which are especially vulnerable to damage from sunlight and pollution. This makes it a valuable addition to your routine year-round, especially during the summer months when sun exposure is higher.
It also supports the body during physical activity, when increased oxidative stress and inflammation can affect performance and recovery. By helping to counter these effects, astaxanthin supports muscle recovery and maintenance, helping you stay active and perform at your best.

FAQ’s
What is astaxanthin?
Astaxanthin is a naturally occurring carotenoid antioxidant found in marine algae. It is responsible for the red-pink colour seen in marine animals such as salmon and krill, which obtain it through the food chain. Astaxanthin is valued for its powerful antioxidant properties and its ability to support the body in managing oxidative stress.
What is oxidative stress?
Oxidative stress occurs when there is an imbalance between free radicals and antioxidants in the body, which can lead to damage to cells and tissues. It is associated with ageing, inflammation and can affect all aspects of health and wellbeing. When our cells produce energy, we inevitably create some internal oxidative stress that may then compromise cell function and overall performance, especially when increasing activity during exercise.
Astaxanthin for the skin
Skin is regularly exposed to environmental stressors such as UV radiation and pollution, which can contribute to oxidative stress and skin damage. By supporting the skin’s natural defence and repair processes, antioxidants can help safeguard against damage, improving resilience and appearance.
How do antioxidants support eye health?
The eyes are particularly vulnerable to oxidative stress because they are constantly exposed to light and environmental factors. They therefore have a high requirement for antioxidants to help maintain health and normal function. Antioxidants help support the body’s natural defences by neutralising free radicals that can contribute to oxidative damage, helping to maintain overall eye health and visual function.
When is the best time to take astaxanthin?
Astaxanthin is a fat-soluble nutrient, so it is best taken with a meal that contains some fat to support absorption.
Can astaxanthin be taken all year round?
Yes, astaxanthin can be taken throughout the year as part of a daily antioxidant routine. Some people choose to take it consistently, while others may increase use during periods of greater sun exposure, such as the summer months. Note that, while astaxanthin does help protect skin cells from UV radiation, it is not a substitute for a sunscreen.
Is this product suitable for children?
This product is suitable at full dose for ages 14 years and above. Children over the age of 10 may use 1 capsule. For more personalised advice, please contact one of our Nutritional Therapists.
