Collagen

Collagen is the most abundant protein in the body. It is an essential part of the structural foundation of body tissues including bone, muscle, skin and connective tissue such as tendons and ligaments. Collagen is therefore supportive for structural issues in the body and consuming collagen has been shown to be beneficial for bone, joint, skin, muscle and digestive health. It can be obtained by eating cartilage from bone, consuming fish with bones or organ meats, drinking bone broth, or by supplementing with collagen peptides.

Here at Cytoplan we offer a range of collagen supplements in highly absorbable and bioeffective peptide or amino acid forms. Available as collagen powders and capsules including our vegan collagen, providing something for everyone. Cytoplan has considered the function of different collagen types, type I which is supportive particularly for skin and muscle health and type II which is indicated in joint health and therefore offers collagen supplements in these forms.

Collagen is the most abundant protein in the body as acts as the frame on which body tissues are built. It is a protein composed of specific amino acids, that provide collagen with its unique structure. Collagen as a whole molecule is too large to be absorbed complete, therefore Cytoplan's collagen supplements provide the building blocks of collagen in specific hydrolysed peptides (groups of amino acids) or amino acids in desirable ratios which are in a form that is incorporated directly into collagen and supports collagen status and function within the body.

There are different types of types of collagen which are relevant to different body tissues:

Collagen type I - collagen for skin and connective tissue

Type I collagen is supportive for the health of connective tissue, particularly skin and muscle. Type I collagen is abundant in collagen from fish as marine collagen. Cytoplan's marine collagen can be used to support the structure, elasticity, texture, strength and resilience of the skin. It has a dual action in the skin: providing the building blocks for collagen, and binding to fibroblasts in dermal layers to stimulate the synthesis of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid and therefore can reduce the appearance of wrinkles. It can also be used to support muscle health.

Collagen type II - collagen for joints

Type II collagen has been demonstrated to be supportive for the production of cartilage, an essential component of joints. Hyaline cartilage is a firm, gel-like substance which covers the bones. Its primary function is to provide cushioning and reduce friction between bones as they slide over or against each other. Collagen type II is a major component of the extracellular matrix of this hyaline cartilage and its synthesis and catabolism is regulated by chondrocytes (cells found in cartilage connective tissue).

Cytoplan CytoProtect joints contains Peptan type II collagen, a form of hydrolysed collagen type II which has been specifically formulated with joint health in mind. It has been matrixed with chondroitin sulphate and hyaluronic acid, making it identical to the composition of cartilage in humans. As a natural source of collagen, it can stimulate the synthesis of collagen within the body, while also providing the building blocks necessary for joint support.

Vegan Collagen - suitable vegan or vegetarian collagen to support skin and connective tissue

Our vegan collagen is an innovative and unique vegan alternative to marine collagen. It provides the building blocks of collagen as isolated amino acids in the exact desired ratio making them highly bioavailable and bioeffective, as composed of the same amino acids as human collagen. Therefore, it provides structural support to skin, hair, nails, ligaments, and tendons. It is 100% plant based and therefore a premium product for conscientious consumers.

Cytoplan collagen comes either as collagen powders which are highly dissolvable or as easy to swallow collagen capsules.

What is marine collagen?

Cytoplan's marine collagen is a tasteless and odourless, wild caught, clean, sustainable fish collagen providing Peptan type I collagen. It has been shown to support the health of all connective tissue including skin and muscle. It is in hydrolysed peptide for and therefore highly bioavailable and bioeffective.

What is vegan collagen?

Cytoplan's Vegan collagen is 100% plant based amino acids in the exact desired ratio that is found in collagen. It has therefore been shown to support collagen formation, and hence the health of skin, muscle, and connective tissue. At this time there are only a small number of other vegan collagen products with this perfect ratio of amino acids.

What are collagen supplement benefits?

As collagen is the most abundant protein it the body and the building block of most body tissues, collagen supplements can support structural dysfunctions within the body and also promote health and integrity of these tissues. Type I collagen such as marine collagen, has been shown to be particularly supportive for skin, muscle, and connective tissue. Whereas type II collagen supports joint health by stimulating the production of cartilage.
