What is the difference between your range of magnesium supplements?

Magnesium is the fourth most abundant mineral in the body and used in over 300 essential metabolic processes. Despite this, according to the National Diet and Nutrition Survey, many of us are not achieving the recommended levels through our diet – and deficiencies in this mineral have been linked to a number of chronic illnesses.

Found chiefly in green vegetables, but also sources such as beans, wholegrains, nuts and seeds, magnesium supports a number of areas of health including:

  • Energy production
  • Healthy sleep
  • Mood balance
  • Muscle function
  • Hormonal balance
  • Blood sugar balance
  • Bone and teeth health
  • ... to name but a few!

Aspects of our modern lifestyles such as stress, poor sleep as well as increased caffeine and sugar intake can all deplete our magnesium stores, and due to changes in farming methods, magnesium levels in our food have declined over the past 80+ years. Food processing and cooking further deplete magnesium levels, and as such, many people could benefit from taking a magnesium supplement – here at Cytoplan we produce a range of magnesium supplements to suit individual needs.

Biofood Magnesium

Biofood Magnesium is a Food State supplement; effectively an organic matrix form of magnesium complete with natural amino acid carriers, to transport the mineral to sites of need within the body. Magnesium is provided in the same form as found in food, and as such, is likely to be far better absorbed than inorganic forms. Providing 100mg of elemental magnesium per tablet, this is a gentle and bioeffective supplement and the ideal choice to top up the levels obtained through diet to support a number of areas of health.

Magnesium Bisglycinate

Magnesium Bisglycinate is a gentle and easily absorbed form of magnesium, with a very low incidence of digestive side effects. Magnesium Bisglycinate is a chelated form of magnesium bound to the amino acid glycine, which ensures optimal absorption and utilisation by your body. This form of magnesium can be particularly supportive for sleep and relaxation, as well as hormonal balance, including menopause and perimenopause symptoms.

Magnesium Citrate

Magnesium Citrate is one of the best absorbed non-food forms of magnesium, and as a citrate, it is rapidly absorbed into the blood stream. Due to its mild laxative effect, it is sometimes used at higher doses to support constipation. Cytoplan’s Magnesium Citrate comes in a vegan capsule form, which can be opened for those who are unable to swallow capsules or tablets. This also makes it suitable for children from the age of 4.

Magnesium Threonate

Magnesium Threonate is a well absorbed form of magnesium which has been shown to cross the blood-brain barrier and therefore increase brain levels of magnesium. Through doing so, this form of magnesium can have positive effects on cognitive function, memory and learning, and is implicated in those suffering with headache/migraine.
