Our immune system is designed to protect us against genuine threats to our health, such as bacteria, viruses and parasites. Sometimes it can develop an overreaction to certain chemicals in the environment such as pollen, animal fur and dust mites. When this happens, the chemical histamine is released by mast cells, which are part of the immune system, resulting in uncomfortable symptoms such as itching, swelling, sneezing, and watery eyes.  

Quercetin (Saphora japonica) is a natural flavonoid found in a range of fruits and vegetables with antioxidant and antihistamine properties. It helps to support mast cell stability, inhibiting them form releasing histamine, and ensuring a balanced immune response.  

Many quercetin products available are not liposomal and use large amounts of poorly absorbed quercetin. Our liposomal quercetin is contained in a protective phospholipid coating, resulting in very small particles that are easily absorbed in the gut and into cells. Our quercetin is therefore many times more effective than a standard product, even at lower doses.  

Yes, this product can be taken by children ages 6 years and above at 1 capsule daily. 

Quercetin is a naturally occurring plant flavonoid found in foods such as onions, apples and berries. It is often used in supplements to support the body’s natural response to histamine, rather than to block histamine in the way pharmaceutical antihistamines do. Conventional antihistamines work by blocking histamine receptors once histamine has been released. Quercetin is thought to act differently, by helping to naturally stabilise mast cells, which are involved in the release of histamine as part of the immune response, and by helping to balance an overactive immune response.

Quercetin is generally used as part of a nutritional approach to support the body’s natural regulation of histamine and immune responses. It is often taken regularly over a number of weeks, particularly during periods of increased allergen exposure. There is currently no safety data on the use of quercetin during pregnancy. For this reason, we don’t recommend taking quercetin while pregnant. 

Yes, quercetin can be used as part of a nutritional approach to support the b ody during the hay fever season.
